THE SPEAKER WHO IS NOT EXPECTED TO SPEAK |
||
![]() The above picture shows you where to find whom in the House of Commons. |
The English Parliament is accommodated in the Houses
of Parliament, a domineering building on the banks of the Thames.
|
|
Parliament comprises two chambers, or 'houses': The
House of Lords and the House of Commons. The proceedings of the House of
Commons are led by the so-called Speaker. The Speaker wears a special
gown as a token of his (her) dignity. And a wig, because tradition must
be observed.

| The funny thing is, though, that the Speaker is about the only one in the House of Commons who is not allowed to speak. He or she can only speak in as far this is necessary to manage the discussions of the other properly. | ||

Democracy requires openness and transparency. And so, whenever Parliament is in session, it is always possible to see and hear what is going on. Curious? Surf to: http://www.parliamentlive.tv/. |
